Camp 4 Finalist Video #1
In late January Camp 4 Collective (my video production company) announced the ‘So You Think You Can Edit’ Contest (yes, I know its catchy) and asked editors that wanted to work with us to submit their reel. It was an idea I came up with to try and find more creative people to work with. From the over 60 reels that were submitted we selected seven finalists (actually it was 9 but a few folks had projects come up) — that’s when things got interesting.
The seven finalists from around the globe were mailed a drive loaded with Phantom footage, B Roll, Timelapses and Music from a shoot we did earlier in the winter with our friend Carston Oliver. (For those of you who don’t know, Carston is one badass skier and Mtn Biker). Once they received their drives, they had 6 days to put together their final entry. We gave them very little direction — essentially the timeline was a blank canvas.
Camp 4 received the finalist’s videos last week… and at first we were going to share only the winner’s video. But after seeing how hard everyone worked on this project it seems selfish to lock them away. So, all this week we will be sharing them here (1 to 2 videos a day) and we will be announcing our winner on Friday.
This video edited in Switzerland with love from Tom Malecha is our first of the week.
Camp 4 Editing Contest
It’s the New Year and Camp 4 is stoked to announce that they are searching for new editors – so what better way than throwing a contest. We are looking to freelance with some of the most progressive/fun/inspirational editors we can find anywhere in the world. We don’t care how well you can ski, climb, shoot, drive, or eat – simply how creative and jaw dropping your FCP or Premiere skills are.
You: Badass Editor looking to work on anything from television commercials to award winning docs.
Us: Camp 4 Collective a family of inspired artists that love telling stories about passionate people exploring the outdoor world.
How it works: From now until midnight on January 18th (two weeks from now) submit a link to a reel of your editing work and your contact information (we don’t care who shot it, only that you edited it) to — info@camp4collective.com
Our expert panel of judges will review the entries and pick 10 finalists on Jan 23rd. The ten finalists will then receive in their hands on the 24th a drive with footage from one of our recent Phantom shoots (no one has seen this footage ever) and then they will have one week to deliver a final video. The deadline for delivery will be by midnight on the 31st.
The winner will be determined via a simple vote by Camp 4 principles [one vote each for a total of 3] and by Facebook Poll [two votes for most awesome]. The editor with most votes wins.
What You Get: Some Schwag, A Ribbon, and the opportunity to be paid competitively to work with us on upcoming edits. Bottom line – We hope to use the winner as one of our elite go to editors.
EXCLUSIVE: [Part 2!] Tested. Proven. : Behind the Lens in the Tetons
Part Two of a Three Part Exclusive Series
This past Spring my video production company Camp 4 embarked on one of our biggest projects to date — documenting a ski mountaineering trip deep into the Tetons Range in Wyoming, in hopes of gathering enough high quality footage to produce a :30 television commercial for The North Face. Our goal was to be ‘light and fast’ but still capture the highest quality content possible.
This video is the second of a three part Behind the Scenes series that we’ve dubbed ‘tested. proven’ - an in depth look the the production and shooting process.
