So I suck at tooting my own horn, but this is pretty cool. Each year Photo District News (the photographers inside line on what’s happening in the photo business) holds their annual photo contest to showcase the best assignment and commercial photography for the year. I’m honored to share that for the 6th year in row (6 years!!!) my images (from our light and fast shoot for Black Diamond Equipment) are being recognized as the ‘Best of the Year’. Thanks to Sandra, JT and the rest of the team over at BD - kickass!!

This is also the shoot featured in the latest FStop series here: CLICK ME

Rory Bosio for The North Face — Chamonix, France

Rory Bosio for The North Face — Chamonix, France

Video: Life in Focus

Video: Life in Focus

Featured Photographer on Phase One Site

(preface: ‘My Week With…’ is a ongoing personal project / creative collaboration with some of the worlds best action sport athletes. My goal is to push the boundaries of what I’ve seen captured with a still cameras thru images that showcase the most beautiful locations, the cutting edge of athleticism, and the most passionate characters on Earth. This is ‘episode 1’.)

Most people that have heard of Tyler Bradt know his name because of his [still] world record plunge in a kayak off of the 186’ Palouse Falls in 2009. But those that have met him in person know him for being a kid trapped in a man’s body — I know few people that work/play/party harder than Mr. Bradt. Tyler has been on the comeback trail after breaking his back (he’s got some serious scars to prove it) in a paddling accident in 2011. So when I got a call that he, Erik Boomer, and a cast of other talented characters were headed to the up and coming paddling mecca of Tlapacoyan to get ‘church’ on the gnarliest waterfalls on earth, I knew it was going to be a trip to remember.

What followed was one of the soggiest, spikiest adventures of my life — a week of non-stop rain, fog, and misty waterfalls. And if having to deal with the hazards of the jungle weren’t enough, the third world sickness rolled thru camp taking no prisoners. It was like the Mayan gods were going to make us earn every frame.

So we learned quickly the drying powers of rice and we tested the healing magic of tequila (the verdict is still out). We pressed on because we were all doing what we loved to do. The hurdles became part of the fun… and I’m proud to share those highs and lows with you here today.

The end of the year is near, and I was just sent a list of some...

The end of the year is near, and I was just sent a list of some the best photo related blog posts of 2012 (we’re mentioned as part of one of them).
Last week we got one of the sweetest care packages in the world sent overnight from Phase One in Europe. Inside was the value of a luxury vehicle — in pure medium format bliss that only a camera nerd can truly appreciate. Phase One is the equivalent of the Lamborghini of cameras - capable of image quality unparalleled in the field and they want to see what I can do with their premiere line outside of the studio.

Over the next several months I’ve agreed to take the gear to some of the raddest environments, work with the most inspirational people I can find, and capture my dream images to share with anyone who wants to see them. The plan — do one of these projects a month for as long as they’ll let me… and since I leave next week for our first shoot, I thought it best to put everything thru the paces.

That’s why last weekend found me in the desert outside of Reno surrounded in the dust of talented Mountain Bikers. Shooting, experimenting, testing, dusting, playing, debugging — you get the idea. It was a killer crew with Cory Dicks, Josh Daiek, Kevin OMeara (just to drop a few names) running laps and me seeing how far I could push the new gear. Its amazing how much you learn when you take pictures with new equipment in the wild instead of test charts and brick walls. These images are a few of my favorites from the first couple dozen shots.

Stay tuned, I’m looking forward to sharing what I learn and the images I capture along the way.

At the start...

BackCountry.com Shoot Goes Live [and looks badass]

At the start of the fall I got a call from the creative team up at BackCountry.com (one of the world’s biggest outdoor online retailers) asking if I’d be interested in shooting a fall look book. The concept revolved around two ripping snow sport athletes getting ready for the ski season. We tracked down some rock stars (Kaitlyn Farrington & Angel Collinson) and found an incredible location in the Wasatch Mountains; a mountain A-Frame straight out of the 70s.

Check out the whole Online Look Book HERE.

Big thanks to the athletes, my crew [Blake and Kate], and the team at BackCountry especially Tommy who wrangled product, locations, props, athletes, AND shot and edited the video accompanying the promo.
